Minigames
MATCHPOINT features seven competitive game modes across the championship. Each round's active minigame is announced 48 hours in advance. Master them all.
BedWars is the flagship game mode of MATCHPOINT Championship. Four teams of four spawn on separate floating islands, each with a bed that serves as their respawn anchor. The objective: destroy every other team's bed, then eliminate all players whose beds are broken.
Objectives
- Protect your team's bed at all costs — once it's destroyed, eliminated players cannot respawn.
- Use your island's resource generators (Iron, Gold, Emerald) to collect materials.
- Purchase armor, weapons, tools, and bed defenses from team and upgrade shops.
- Destroy all enemy beds, then eliminate the remaining players to claim victory.
Resources & Generators
Three resource types generate automatically throughout the match:
- Iron — spawns on your island every 1–2 seconds. Buys basic tools and blocks.
- Gold — spawns on your island every 5–8 seconds. Buys enchantments and power items.
- Emeralds — spawn at central diamond/emerald generators. Requires crossing the map to collect. Buys team upgrades.
Bed Defense
A well-fortified bed is the difference between a first-round exit and a deep run. Common defense strategies:
| Defense Type | Materials | Effectiveness |
|---|---|---|
| Wool wrap | Wool blocks | Low — fast to break, cheap to buy |
| End stone | End Stone | Medium — harder to mine, fire-resistant |
| Obsidian core | Obsidian + End Stone | High — very slow to break, must plan attack time |
| Layered defense | Wool + End Stone + Obsidian | Highest — delays attackers significantly |
Championship Rules
- Match time limit: 25 minutes. If multiple teams survive, the team with most beds intact + most kills wins.
- Teams start with Level 1 Iron and Gold generators. Upgrades require Emeralds from center island.
- Void kills count as kills for the eliminating team if the victim was knocked off.
- TNT, fireballs, and ender pearls are all permitted.
SkyWars places two teams of four on separate sky islands surrounded by void. Players must loot chests on their island, bridge to center, collect better gear, and eliminate the opposing team. Unlike BedWars, there are no generators — loot is finite, making early decisions critical.
Island Loot Tiers
- Spawn Island — basic armor, wood sword, limited food. Use to bridge early.
- Mid Islands — iron/gold armor, enchanted weapons, better food. Contest these early.
- Center Island — diamond armor, powerful enchantments, potions. The most contested area.
Bridging
Efficient bridging is essential. In competitive play, teams typically send 1–2 players to rush center while the others reinforce home island and deny the enemy's rush. Common techniques: diagonal bridging, god-bridging, and scaffold-running.
Championship Rules
- Match time limit: 15 minutes.
- At 5 minutes, the world border begins closing — staying on outer islands becomes impossible.
- First team to eliminate all 4 opponents wins the round.
- Pearl stasis and chorus fruit are permitted.
The Bridge is a fast-paced objective mode. Two teams of four stand on opposite sides of a void arena and must bridge to the enemy's goal — a portal below their platform — and jump through it to score. The first team to score 5 goals wins the round.
Scoring
- A goal is scored when any player jumps through the enemy portal.
- After a goal, both teams reset to their starting platforms with full health and a fresh kit.
- Kills do not count — only goals matter. However, killing defenders opens a scoring path.
Kit
Each player respawns with a fixed kit: Iron Sword, Stone Pickaxe, 64 blocks of their team color, Bow with 32 arrows, Chain Armor, and 8 Golden Apples. No upgrades — pure skill and coordination.
Championship Rules
- First to 5 goals wins the map. Matches are best-of-3 maps.
- Teams swap sides after each map.
- Max map time: 12 minutes. If neither team reaches 5 goals, most goals wins.
Crystal PvP is combat using End Crystals placed atop Obsidian or Bedrock. When a crystal is hit or an arrow strikes it, it explodes — dealing massive damage based on proximity. Mastery requires pinpoint timing, precise placement, and fast hotbar switching.
Core Mechanics
- Crystal placement — place End Crystals on Obsidian or Bedrock to create explosions.
- Pop timing — shoot the crystal the instant after it's placed to deal maximum burst damage.
- Anchor usage — Respawn Anchors in the Overworld explode and serve as secondary damage tools.
- Totem popping — when an opponent's health drops critically low, a Totem of Undying saves them. Tracking totems is essential.
Kit
Players receive: Netherite Armor (Protection IV, Blast Protection III), Sword (Sharpness V), Pickaxe (Efficiency V), 16 End Crystals, 128 Obsidian, 8 Totems of Undying, and Strength II Potions.
Championship Rules
- 2v2 format — each team sends two players into the arena.
- First team to eliminate both opponents wins the round.
- Matches are best-of-5 rounds.
- Arena resets between rounds. Totem count does not reset.
In UHC, natural health regeneration is disabled. The only way to restore health is through Golden Apples or Potions of Healing. Teams gather resources, craft gear, and hunt opponents across a shrinking world. Every engagement has permanent consequences.
Key Differences from Vanilla
- Natural regeneration: disabled.
- Healing only through Golden Apples (craftable) or Healing Potions.
- Teams start in separate areas of a large map and must locate each other.
- World border begins shrinking at 15 minutes, forcing encounters.
Resource Strategy
Prioritize gold early — crafting Golden Apples is your primary healing. Balance mining time with awareness that enemy teams are doing the same. Teams that over-mine and under-scout often get caught unprepared.
Championship Rules
- Map size: 1000×1000. World border shrinks to 100×100 by minute 20.
- Last team alive wins. Partial credit (points) given for eliminations.
- Match time limit: 30 minutes.
Kit PvP removes resource gathering entirely. Each player selects one of five pre-built kits before the match and fights in a closed arena. The team with the most kills after 10 minutes wins.
Available Kits
| Kit | Armor | Weapon | Special |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brawler | Diamond Protection III | Axe Sharp V | Strength I Pot |
| Archer | Chain Armor | Sword Sharp III | Power V Bow, Speed II |
| Tank | Netherite Prot II | Sword Sharp III | Resistance I, Shield |
| Assassin | Leather + Prot IV | Sword Sharp V | Speed III, Gapples |
| Mage | Iron Blast Prot | Sword | Splash Potions kit |
Championship Rules
- Match duration: 10 minutes. Highest kill count wins.
- On elimination, a player respawns after 5 seconds at their team base.
- Teams may not all pick the same kit. At least 2 different kits must be used.
- Tied kill counts go to the team with more damage dealt.
Spleef is the classic Minecraft party game turned competitive. Players stand on a multi-layered snow platform arena and must break blocks beneath their opponents using a shovel, causing them to fall through. Fall into the void and you're out.
Rules
- All players start on the top layer of a 3-layer arena.
- Each player receives a Diamond Shovel (Efficiency V). No other tools or weapons.
- Breaking snow beneath an opponent causes them to fall. If they hit the void, they're eliminated.
- Players may jump between layers — landing on a lower layer is not elimination.
- The team with last player(s) standing wins the round.
Championship Rules
- Best-of-5 rounds. Each round lasts a maximum of 5 minutes.
- Team wins when all 4 enemy players are eliminated from a single round.
- At 3 minutes, the bottom of the arena is removed, forcing rapid play.
